How To Use Open Questions At Interview

Career : Career Techniques

When you are interviewing someone, make sure that you use open questions in virtually all circumstances.

A closed line of questioning even for a willing candidate will make it harder to give full and focussed answers, because they simply invite an answer of yes or no!

Therefore don't say:

"Did you enjoy working at your old company?"

But rather, if that's going to be a relevant question and give you useful information:

"Tell me about your old company - what did you like and what would you have liked to change?"
