Web Designer
Jobs : Job Profiles As a web designer, you will need excellent command and knowledge of HTML. Just knowing how to use Dreamweaver or equivalent software is not enough - you should understand the underlying code and be able to write and build a site without recourse to any applications. You will need creative flair, attention to detail, good people skills and be able to work to a brief. Working hard for extended periods of time and often in isolation are also good skills to have. Many people either work in house, on a contract basis or indeed are self employed. You will need determination as it can be hard to get the first few clients - the portfolio is a key tool. Therefore building one of these up is the hardest thing to do. When you do and referrals start flooding in, then you can do very nicely. As a web designer, there is intense competition from the plethora of IT graduates out there in the market, therefore it is useful to have other skills above HTML - for instance Flash, Java, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, SQL knowledge and so on and so forth. The more you know and the more detail in which you know it, the longer you can prolong your career. You should look to learn on an ongoing basis in order that your skills are constantly being refined and upgraded.
