Equivalent Calories From Different Foodstuffs

For those of you that like to know these things, here are some equivalences of the number of calories that you will derive from different food stuffs, as follows:

If you have one gram of fat, that will give you approximately nine calories

If you have one gram of protein, you will derive just four calories

and for carbohydrates, well that's pretty similar - on average four calories per gram

So you can see that fat is the best store of energy in that you get over two times as many calories for your gram.

That's great if you are low on food or surviving in tough conditions, but for those of us spoilt with riches of food, it is where the problem with obesity can come in.
