Try to keep the whole thing as fluid and as smooth as possible - this will give you best results and enable you to stretch to your best ability during the exercise period. Remember that in terms of equipment you should make sure the flooring you are on is firm but soft, otherwise some stretches may be painful and can put undue pressure on joints. Therefore whilst stretching, always try to do so on a floor that is carpeted or if you can on a dedicated exercise mat.
