How To Store Food Safely In The Fridge

Food And Drink : Great Food Tips

If you have leftover food from any meal, then you can reuse it but only if you store it properly to prevent it from going off and causing food poisoning. Make sure you place any leftover food in the fridge within 2 hours of it being prepared. If you have food that is cooling, let it do so in the fridge and not on the counter. Leftovers should be placed in clean storage containers with lids that fit properly. If not, cover the top with foil or cling film.

The boxes should be stored in the fridge a few inches apart so that the cold air can circulate. Anything containing meat should be used within 3 days of being stored, and other foodstuffs should last up to 5 days, but always check before using. If something smells or looks funny then use your instincts and throw it away. Food should not be reheated more than twice, as bacteria can form.

The fridge should be kept at the recommended temperature, and the freezer always at 0 degrees. To store uncooked foods like meat and poultry, wrap them in cling film or place in containers so that their juices do not drip onto other foods. Soups and casseroles can also be stored in shallow containers and refrigerated.

Fruit and vegetables should go in the special drawers, and eggs are better being kept in their carton in the fridge.
