The Correct Length For A Press Release
Business : PR Like with any unfamiliar document, one of the first things people often wonder about a press release is the length that it should be. Just like the old one page or two page debate for the CV, there is not necessarily a right or wrong length. How much do you have to communicate? If hardly anything, then a half page may do. If you have loads then you will always struggle to keep it down to one page. However the rule is to only make it as long as absolutely necessary to communicate all that you want to - there is no place for padding or serious repetition in a press release. The shorter and more succinct the more likely it is to get read - writing ten pages of wonderful prose is a surefire way not to get a press release read as people just won't have time to wade through it. Ensure that you keep it to the point because if the information is used as the basis of an article it is sure to be adapted by the journalist who writes the actual article, so don't feel that you need to write it yourself as though it is the finished product for publication: get to the point and keep it clear.
