Health And Fitness : Exercise Guide A rowing machine can be excellent at giving you a great cardio workout. But how do you use it? Well, the start position is like this: Arms fully extended, and relaxed. Wrists are kept flat, legs are compressed, and the body is pressed up to legs. Note that the shins should be vertical. The finish of the stroke should have you in this position: Legs fully extended (not to the extent where they are 'locked' however). The handle should have been drawn into the body just above your stomach. Finally, the body should lean back very slightly, with elbows past the body and forearms horizontal with flat wrists. Try to keep your shoulders down and relaxed. Then simply repeat for the duration of your exercise session on the rowing machine.
