How do you know if you are in love or have settled for your lot?

Sounds like you are having some doubts there about your relationship!
It can be quite hard to tell whether you are still in love or are just going through the motions in a relationship, I suppose you just have to compare it to past experiences and how you have felt in the past. If things are really humdrum and dull then it could be that you are just going through the motions, although it is not clear cut always as relationships almost always tend to lose the intense spark and novelty of the first few weeks.
