How do you protect the camera?

Use a good quality carrying case to protect your camera - with some of these you can even drop the camera to the ground, in the bag, and it will be fine.
Use a lens cover if you have a larger camera that does not automatically close off and cover the lens when the camera is switched off.
Keep it away from water and if there are splases around but you need it you could consider putting it in some sort of clear plastic.
