What advertising works best?

There is no absolute answer for what type of advertising works best, as it varies on a business by business basis, how you use each medium, and what sort of advertising you do through that medium.
For most businesses a combination is the safest bet, combining online and offline advertising methods for best effect.
For instance a website and building rankings to that organically is a good idea, as is adverts in magazines and local papers as well as through affiliates, referrals and of course word of mouth, as well as advertising to existing customers to resell and upsell.
