What are MACHOs?

These are MAssive Compact Halo Objects.
They are used as part of the hypothesis that a significant fraction of the universe in the halo of the Milky Way is made up of objects like brown dwarfs or planets: these objects are MACHOs. They have a large explanatory role in the hypothesis re what dark matter is made of.
