What is a pluton?
Question asked by: knowitall
A pluton is a new category that has appeared recently.
It is named plutons as the founder member is pluto. They are a group of objects that are like planets but perhaps not in as classic a sense as Earth, Mars, Jupiter and so on.
They are smaller than the main planets and hard, rocky bodies. Typically but not always they are a long, long way from the Sun and far out in the solar system.
It seems likely that more and more plutons will come to light and be added in coming years.
