What is a theory?
Question asked by: knowitall
A theory is an hypothesis about something and how it works in the real world.
For instance if you see smoke particles move around in a little container, and see how they fill the container, then you may create a theory to explain how it happens - for instance that air currents circulate and pull the smoke around.
This is then a theory. We can test a theory by seeing how well it predicts actual behaviour in the real world, and how well it compares to competing theories.
