What is an alkali?
Question asked by: knowitall
An alkali is a base that is soluble in water.
Normally a base is a metal hydroxide but this does not have to be the case.
They neutralise acids and are effective at killing most bacteria, hence many household cleaners contain an alkali of varying strength.
