What is the point of doing Math at school I'll never need in real life?

Question asked by: knowitall

This is an interesting question.

For most jobs the only math you will need is simply adding up and subtracting, the joys of mental arithmetic.

However there is good reason to do other math.

Firstly, people who go into science, or engineering and some other jobs really will need to know this other maths as it has real life applications, particularly to do with angles and so on.

Also it is good because it teaches you method and logic that are important in other aspects of your life generically and in terms of developing a good and clear way of thinking.
