Why did Geneva become the centre for Calvinism in the 1540s?

It was well located for those who believed in the Calvinist tradition to meet and when lots of people with a particular belief are located in a place like that which is relatively well developed with good transportation and links to other places then it becomes a virtuous circle in that regard.
