Can you make money as an author?

Yes you can make money as an author.
Indeed the top authors make an absolute fortune and just the process of writing a book will guarantee huge sales. This means that the publishing houses are always too keen to take their work and will pay a large advance.
However like most industries that does not apply to the mainstream. In general a person who is an author will not make much money because for every book that sells a lot there are loads that hardly sell at all, or only a small amount.
Certainly if you wanted to make a good income then author is not the best choice of job!
