Do dark matter and dark energy exist?
Question asked by: knowitall
Do dark matter and dark energy exist? The answer is definitely maybe.
They are currently generally considered by most cosmologists to be the best candidates for explaining the phenomenology of the world around us.
Put another way, the apparent mass of the universe and the fact that the universe appears to be expanding seem to need us to posit more than ordinary, familiar matter in order to be explained.
The two candidates that when plugged into the standard model would in theory seem to explain the mass and expansion of the universe are called dark matter and dark energy.
Of course, this picture could be wrong, slightly wrong, right, or part of a bigger picture - as ever only time, new theories, new discoveries and new technological advantages will tell.
