Finding the number

Well, if one less than half is twelve, then half is thirteen.
This is because 12 + 1 = 13
Therefore half the number is 13 so the whole number is 26
this is because 26 = 13 x 2
and that's the answer, really easy actually!
Express in algebra to help with this sort of question.
