How much matter is visible?

Question asked by: knowitall

The figure is likely to change all the time, however on current calculations the result is perhaps rather surprising.

The current estimate is that just 0.5% of the mass of the universe is made up of visible matter, the rest being accounted for by mysterious dark matter.
