I have a funny taste in my mouth on waking what is it?

It is impossible to say as there are so many reasons why this could happen.
Bad breath in the morning could be caused by a whole range of problems from the benign to the more serious.
An actual bad taste in the mouth could, for instance, be caused by sinus drainage down into the back of the mouth and could also be accompanied by a sore throat in the morning.
If it persists then it would probably be best to go to the doctor just to check it is nothing serious.
