What is macro photography?

This is close up photography where you are taking photos of things in detail and close.
For instance if you go right in close to a flower to get the details of the flower so that it fills the frame then this is macro photography, also if you go very close to a butterfly to record all the details of its wings and so on then that too is an example of macro photography.
