What is the fate of the universe?
Question asked by: knowitall
The fate of the universe has always been of religious and scientific interest.
Depending on faiths many believe that God will bring the world to the end at some arbitrary point sometimes called armageddon.
For scientists, the question boils down to whether the universe is expanding, slowing down, or slowing down and will fall back in on itself.
The answer to this will largely tell us the fate of the universe.
We don't know the answer for sure, but the most recent theories suggest the universe is expanding at an increasing rate.
Were this to continue then the universe would peter out with all material drifting further and further apart and eventually all matter going dark as stars burned out.
