What is the role of eign function in quantum mechanics

I think you mean eigen function rather than eign function?

To find out more about eigenfunctions then I would suggest reading this page here:

It explains what they are and I'm not confident enough to put it in my own words, and it also mentions about Schrodinger's equation and the role of eigenfunction in quantum mechanics, essentially making it a natural description/explanation of why only certain energy states are allowed which is a key tenet of course of the quantum theory.
