What rules are there for solving sudoku?

Asked on: 14 Aug 2009

There are lots of rules for solving sudoku puzzles.

One of the most important is to see what number can go in each cell and reduce the options sometimes this will be enough to be able to place a cell. You can also see the possible candidates for a given number in a certain row or column or box.

Those are the two most used rules of them all. There are other slightly harder rules like realising if two numbers can only go in two cells in some order then those two cells must contain those numbers and therefore they can't be placed anywhere else in that region, and so on.
