Who invented the mini skirt?

The mini skirt was famously invented many decades ago now by someone called Mary Quant.
It caused considerable controversy at the time for being considered to be quite racy and for showing too much leg in a time where generally people were more prudish or at least fashion tastes were more conservative than now - this was in the world before hotpants!
