Who wrote Harry Potter?

Harry Potter was written by J.K. Rowling, and has been a global phenomenon the likes of which has not been seen before.
It is particularly impressive that in the internet age where so many only read things on screen either of the mobile/cell phone or on the internet / monitor / TV that the written media has been able to sell and still proven popular when the right material has come along.
