Why are deserts dry?

Question asked by: stephy

Deserts are dry because the temperature is warm enough during the day such that any water in the shape of pools and so on will evaporate away.

This is coupled with the fact that they have very little rainfall in these areas and therefore they become dry and barren over a period of time.

These conditions tend to change over the millenia, for instance the now very dry deserts some were really big watering holes and lush in the past.
