Why did Americans in the late 1800s begin to desire increased government regulation of business?
Question asked by: knowitall
With increasing transport and interaction between states, rather than all being isolated within one state, it was necessary to have some consistency and uniformity across state boundaries.
Otherwise with differing laws and customs matters were very parochial and it was hard to grow and trade across these boundaries, hence the call for the government to step in and set up standards.
