How can I add drama and tension to my music?

Question asked by: knowitall

If you want to add some drama and tension to your music, then it is great that you are looking to extend and make your musical styles more sophisticated.

In terms of how to do this musically, you should look to start using some diminished and augmented chords in your music.

This is the sort of chord that is often used in the old classic 'train approaching man tied to train tracks' type suspense moments in films.

Notice how going up or down the scale of an augmented or diminished chord naturally seems to build tension, and use this as appropriate in your music.
