The oxidation number of Cl in ClO3- is a) -1 b)+7 c)+5 d)+3 e)none of the above

Perhaps it is +3, because if each oxygen is minus one then you need three of them to equalise this out so that would make it +3.

That said I'm not fully sure on this one so best to check with someone else if this is for a homework answer so that you don't end up getting it wrong!
