How did Peter Jones get rich?

According to the introduction off Dragons Den he started with a tennis academy though no details are given of money made.
Then he started branching out into telecoms and a range of other business interests including property and from these made his money; now with several companies on the go.
The intro also implies at some stage he lost lots of money then rebuilt himself.
