Why should I not use tables but rather CSS?

Question asked by: knowitall

The reason to use tables not CSS is simple.

Tables were not designed to be used to format and display content on a webpage, but rather to hold tabular data.

However in the early days of the web when there was no way to position content precisely, people became adept at manipulating tables beyond what they were meant for in order to control and format content.

However there is now CSS and it is well established, and was designed specifically to control and display content.

Therefore you should look to use CSS instead to display elements on your page.
