How can I learn to play jazz?

Question asked by: knowitall

If you want to play jazz then it's harder than you think!

The first thing you need is an excellent understanding of musical theory and intervals.

Learn the major intervals that create the sound that is unique to jazz, for instance the use of seventh chords is very distinctive of that easy and pleasant and relaxed sound that you get in jazz music.

There are lots of books and guildes on how to get good at jazz and improvising and playing with others and as ever practice makes perfect.
