Clues in squares is a type of word puzzle.
In the clues in squares puzzle the puzzle does what it says on the tin!
In other words, the crossword type puzzle has the clues embedded in the puzzle in squares rather than having them outside the grid.
This is quite a popular variation of the puzzle, and it means that the clues have to be quite small and succinct in order that they are short enough to fit into the cells of the puzzle grid.
